What are the top legal and practical concerns stemming from a key California climate-change initiative, its Advanced Clean Fleets (ACF) rule that went into effect in October 2023? This initiative by the California Air Resources board to move toward mandated zero-emission vehicles for medium- and heavy-duty truck and bus fleets poses many challenges, in particular for High Priority and Federal Fleets. That’s what participation in the complimentary Procopio Life Sciences CEO Connection peer-to-peer advisory program—whether in San Diego, Irvine or Palo Alto—is all about.

Digital AdTech Innovator Now Trading on Nasdaq through SPAC Transaction

Congratulations to client and leading provider of digital consumer acquisition solutions Collective Audience, Inc., on the consummation of their $114-million business combination and commencement of trading on Nasdaq under the new ticker symbol CAUD. This resulted from the combination of DLQ, Inc., a former subsidiary of our client Logiq, Inc. (OTCQX: LGIQ), with Abri SPAC I, Inc., a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC).

Supporting Logiq in the complex deSPAC transaction was Capital Markets and Securities practice leader Christopher Tinen, along with a core deal team of Jessica Lazur, Jennifer Trowbridge, Michael Tiab and Jeremy Burke. Also supporting the team was Caitlin Murphey, Rachel Edwards, Shai Larkin, Elaine Harwell, John Miles, Eric Swenson, William Belanger and David Boatwright.

AI Innovator Selected for Highly Competitive National Accelerator

Congratulations to client and artificial intelligence innovator DynamoFL on its selection to the Enterprise AI Accelerator by Comcast NBCUniversal LIFT Labs. Chosen from hundreds of applications, DynamoFL and nine other early-stage companies will explore and test their business models and fast-track potential partnerships during a six-week intensive program. 

DynamoFL is represented by Procopio Partner and Emerging Growth and Venture Capital practice leader Roger Rappoport, as well as a broader team including Partners Elaine Harwell, Sara Neva and James Kramer and Associate Jeremy Burke.

Procopio Intellectual Property Team Leader Miku Mehta will moderate the panel "Claim drafting considerations: Trends in divided and joint infringement," and earlier that day attendees will hear from USPTO Director Kathi Vidal and the CEO of Canada's IP Office, Konstantin Georgaras.

Meet the newest member of our Litigation team, Yulian Kolarov! He assists clients with a wide range of business disputes and civil litigation, including matters involving contracts, intellectual property rights (trademark, copyright, and trade secrets), real property, corporate governance, privacy, and partnership and business management disputes. Yulian previously clerked with the Honorable Daniel E. Butcher of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.

What an honor it was to host the LawExchange International Autumn Conference earlier this month in San Diego, at our downtown office and a bayfront hotel. Kudos to Ashley Genser on her election to the San Diego Family Law Bar Association Board of Directors! A longtime member of the Bar, her leadership service begins in January. Ashley focuses on dissolution of marriage, legal separation, child custody and visitation, child support, spousal support, post-judgment modifications, enforcement actions, and counseling for mediation and settlement negotiations. She has worked on a wide variety of cases from simple dissolutions to those involving the division of high value assets and complex estates.

What data privacy and other legal concerns stem from the incorporation of AI-generated content? Elaine Harwell, leader of our Privacy & Cybersecurity group, outlined those and other issues in New York City at the IP Counsel Café conference, "Maximizing the Value of IP: Artificial Intelligence and Other Challenges."

Our Director of Knowledge Management and Technology Innovation Tiffany O’Neil wowed attendees at the 2023 KM Legal summit by the Ark Group October 26 with her insights on the potential of generative AI to advance law firm knowledge management, noting machine learning will adapt to the user's individual preferences and needs. That was part of the message in her keynote address that opened the conference, and she later moderated a panel titled "Real Stories from Legal Technology Implementation."
